U Međunarodnom kulturnom centru Hrvatske glazbene mladeži u Grožnjanu, od 6. do 13. kolovoza unutar «Ljetnog seminara udaraljkaša», održat će se 3. «Susret bubnjara Istoka i Zapada».
From the 6th of August to the 13th of August the HGM International Cultural Centre of Croatia in Grožnjan will host the 3rd Gathering of Percussionists from East and West within the framework of the «Summer Seminar of Percussionists».
Dal 6 al 13 agosto, nel centro internazionale di cultura dei Giovani musicisti croati, nell’ambito del «Seminario estivo di percussioni», si terrà il 3° «L’Est incontra l’Ovest in Croazia».
Tijekom susreta održavat će se intenzivne radionice, koncerti, seminari, predavanja, okrugli stolovi, uz posebne VIP goste iz svjetske glazbene industrije.
Polaznicima se nudi mogućnost osvajanja stipendije (4,400 američkih dolara/22 tisuće kuna) za tri tjedna boravka i usavršavanja u New Yorku (Drummers Collective NYC).
U izvrsnoj postavi međunarodnih predavača nalaze se i dva «Grammyjevca»: počasni gost John Gallen iz Londona (producent albuma «Queen», «Simply Red» i Boy Georgea te su-autor glazbe u nekoliko «James Bond 007» filmova) i Horacio «El Negro» Hernandez (Cuba), poznati bubnjar i perkusionist, koji je kao član poznatih «mainstream» sastava osvajao «Grammy» nagrade s albumima «Havana» Roya Hargrovea (1977.), «Supernatural» Carlosa Santane (1999.) te «Listen here» Eddija Palmierija (2005.).
Hernandez je dobitnik «Grammyja» i za vlastiti solo album «Live at the Blue Note».
Osim njih, ovogodišnji predavači/gosti su i Simon Phillips (UK/SAD), član svjetski poznatih sastava («The Who», «Toto», Mike Oldfield, Gary Moore), koji je surađivao s frontmanom «Roling Stonesa» Mick Jaggerom i s poznatom heavy metal grupom «Judas Priest»;
Bill Bruford (UK), živuća legenda rock glazbe (originalni član progressive-rock benda «Yes», bubnjar grupe «Genesis» i rock benda «King Crimson»); Peter Lockett (UK) koji je snimao i nastupao sa svjetski poznatim glazbenicima poput Björk, Peterom Gabrielom, Robertom Plantom, Russ Millerom i Nelly Furtado, Pet Shop Boysima, Amy Winehouse, Sinead O’Conner i drugima.
Lockett je također snimao/aranžirao udaraljke i u poznatim holivudskim filmovima («The Incredible Hulk 2», «City of Angels» (Meg Ryan), «The Insider» (Al Pacino), «The Bone Collector», (Denzel Washington), «Amazing Grace», (Albert Finney), «The quiet American» (Michael Caine), «Moulin Rouge», (Nicole Kidman) te u pet posljednjih James Bond filmova).
Nadalje, kao predavači dolaze i Mike Haid (SAD), redoviti kontributor najtiražnijeg časopisa za bubnjare i udaraljkaše na svijetu (Modern Drumer Magazin) te još jedan predavač iz Hrvatske Petar Čurić (r. 1979., Pula), talentirani i ambiciozni mlađi glazbenik koji se školovao i djelovao u inozemstvu (SAD/UK).
Čurić je snimao i nastupao s najpoznatijim imenima svjetske glazbene scene: Sharon Isbin (gitaristica), Markom Nigtingaleom (James Morrison, Sting), Michaelom Davisom (Bob Dylan, «Rolling Stones»), Steveom Formanom u njegovu «Tambourine Studiju» (Venice, Kalifornija) i Bobom Singletonom.
Predaje na «World Music» školi u Los Angelesu i «Akademiji za suvremenu glazbu» («The Academy of Contemporary Music», ACM) u Londonu.
Laureat je «Vic Firth-Megamuzika Award –a» 2008. godine za izvrsnost u glazbenoj edukaciji. Finalist je «Yamahine» nagrade za «Mladog udaraljkaša godine» na «Kraljevskom koleđu» u Londonu te dobitnik «Truscott Prize» za opći uspjeh na «Glazbenom odsjeku» Sveučilišta u Huddersfieldu (Engleska).
Magisterijski studij iz glazbenih znanosti pohađa na «North Texasu» pod mentorstvom Eda Sopha te na «Surreyu» s Trevorom Tomkinsom.
Čurić je ujedno ravnatelj i koordinator ovog Susreta. (I. R.)

The programme comprises intensive workshops, concerts, seminars, lectures and debates, which will be attended by several VIP guests from the music industry.
The participants have the opportunity to win a scholarship (4 400 US dollars) and to attend a three-week study programme in New York.
Among other excellent international lecturers, the participants of the seminar will have the opportunity to learn from two winners of «Grammy» awards: John Gallen from London (produced albums by «Queen», «Simply Red» and Boy George; co-author of several James Bond soundtracks) and Horacio «El Negro» Hernandez (Cuba), famous drummer and percussionist, who won several «Grammies» as a member of renowned mainstream bands («Havana», Ray Hargrove, 1977; «Supernatural», Carlos Santana, 1999; «Listen here», Eddi Palmieri, 2005). Hernandez also won a «Grammy» for his solo album «Live at the Blue Note».
Beside them, this year’s guest lecturers are: Simon Phillips (UK/USA), member of world-class bands («The Who», «Toto», Mike Oldfield, Gary Moore) and musician who worked with Mick Jagger, frontman of the «Rolling Stones», and the famous heavy metal band «Judas Priest»; Bill Bruford (UK), rock legend (original member of the progressive rock band «Yes», drummer of the «Genesis» and «King Crimson»); Peter Lockett (UK), who recorded and performed with many famous musicians (Björk, Peter Gabriel, Robert Plant, Russ Miller, Nelly Furtado, «Pet Shop Boys», Amy Winehouse, Sinead O’Connor). Lockett also contributed to soundtracks of famous Hollywood films («The Incredible Hulk 2», «City of Angels» (Meg Ryan), «The Insider» (Al Pacino), «The Bone Collector», (Denzel Washington), «Amazing Grace», (Albert Finney), «The quiet American» (Michael Caine), «Moulin Rouge», (Nicole Kidman), last five James Bond films).
The participants will also have the opportunity to learn from Mike Haid (USA), regular contributor to the most popular magazine for percussionist in the world (“Modern Drummer Magazine”) and Petar Ćurić (born in 1979 in Pula), musician who studied and worked abroad (USA/UK). This tallented and ambitious musician has recorded and performed with some of the most distinguished members of the world’s music scene: Sharon Isbin (guitarist), Mark Nightingale (James Morrison, Sting), Michael Davis (Bob Dylan, Rolling Stones), Steve Forman in his “Tambourine Studio” (Venice, California) and Bob Singleton.
He teaches at the “World Music” School in Los Angeles and the “Academy of Contemporary Music” in London. Ćurić is a laureate of the “Vic Firth-Megamuzika Award” 2008 for excellence in music education. He was the finalist of the “Yamaha Award” for the best young percussionist of the year at the Royal College in London and winner of the “Truscott Prize” for overall success at the “Music Department” of the University in Huddersfield (England). Ćurić is also attending M.A. studies at the “North Texas University” (professor Ed Soph) and the “Surrey University” (with Trevor Tomkins). He is also the head and coordinator of this gathering.
Drummers and percussionist (of all ages and levels of education) are invited to apply for the seminar.
Participants have the opportunity to win a scholarship (4 400 US dollars) and upgrade their knowledge during a three-week study programme in New York.

Mike Haid (USA), che contribuisce regolare alla rivista per batteristi e percussionisti con la maggiore tiratura al mondo, Modern Drummer Magazine, e Petar Čurić (nato nel 1979 a Pola), musicista ambizioso e di talento che ha ricevuto l’educazione musicale ed ha lavorato all’estero (Gran Bretagna /Stati Uniti).
Čurić si è esibito ed ha registrato con nomi conosciuti della scena musicale: Sharon Isbin (chitarrista), Mark Nightingale (James Morrison, Sting), Michael Davisom (Bob Dylan, «Rolling Stones»), Steve Forman nel suo «Tambourine Studio» (Venice, California) e Bob Singleton.
