U pulskoj Foto galeriji na Forumu od 11. do 15. rujna održavat će se izložba «Reutersovog» fotoreportera Nikole Šolića pod nazivom «Bagdadski zalasci».
From the 11th to the 15th of September the Photo Gallery at the Forum Square in Pula will host the exhibition titled “Baghdad Sunsets” by Nikola Šolić, Reuters photo reporter.
Izložba je nastala u okolnostima njegova boravka u Iraku, gdje je po «Reutersovom» zadatku čekao suđenje Sadamu Huseinu. (Igrom slučaja upravo je on posljednji snimio iračkog diktatora prije njegova smaknuća.)
Tijekom pauza, svake je večeri odlazio na krov te snimao zalaske sunca. Iz toga nastala je ova zanimljiva i impresivna izložba koja svjedoči o povijesnim trenucima, ali i o njihovom kontekstu.
Ovom serijom fotografija s kojom je već napravio nekoliko izložbi, Nikola Šolić ponudio je drukčiju viziju ratne stvarnosti.
Među njima je i fotografija ratnog helikoptera koji prolazi kroz crveno sunce u Bagdadu, a koju je «Reuters» proglasio fotografijom godine 2006.
Šolić je rođen 1957. u Hrvatskoj Kostajnici. Iako umjetnik u svom poslu, Šolić nije završio strukovnu fotografsku školu.
Prije nego se počeo baviti fotografijom, godinama je radio kao novinar za većinu vodećih novina ‘80-ih godina, poput «Starta» i «Večernjeg lista».
Od 1990. boravi te izvještava s ratnih područja čime postaje jedan od svjetski poznatih hrvatskih ratnih fotoreportera.
Izložba je otvorena do 15. rujna, a može se pogledati od 19 do 22 sata. (I. R.)

This series of photographs came to life during the author’s stay in Iraq, where he was covering the Sadam Husein’s trial as a Reuters reporter. Šolić also took the last Husein’s photograph before his execution. During the intermissions, Šolić was spending his evenings on rooftops capturing sunsets. On these occasions Šolić created materials united in this exhibition.
This series of photographs, already shown within frameworks of several exhibitions, presents a different view of the reality of war. Among other photographs the audience will have the opportunity to see the one presenting a war helicopter rushing through the red Baghdad sun, the photograph which was pronounced the photograph of the year 2006 by Reuters.
Šolić was born in Hrvatska Kostajnica in 1957. Although he is an expert in photography, he has no formal training in this field of art. Šolić used to work as a journalist for a number of leading newspapers in the 1980s («Večernji list», «Start»). Since 1990 he has been a war reporter and has become one of the world class Croatian reporters.
The exhibition is on view until the 15th of September (from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.).
