———————————————————
On the 26th of September at 8 p.m. the Regional Museum of the Town of Rovinj will host the opening of the exhibition «Overview of Works 1998 – 2008» by Marijan Molnar.
Author’s photographs, objects, installations and video works will be presented on this occasion.
«Molnar is the author of numerous site specific and on-line works. His works are often linked, forming in this way broader thematic unities and cycles. Regardless of the topic he is investigating – positions of minorities, the subject of the other, social margins and marginalizations, perceptions of global relations or personal identity – Molnar uses over and again the creative potential of anonymity, exploring in this way genius loci of the cultural and social surrounding. Critics used to list him among conceptualists and postconceptualists. But Molnar differed from the beginning because of his tendency to stay on the border outside the central orientation of his colleagues. This is obvious in his choice of motives and spaces, the most emblematic of which is the recurring motive of his home town Reka, situated near Koprivnica. Molnar became a great figure of our art in the 1990s, thanks to his actions and attractive multimedia presentations. Some of these projects are exhibited within the framework of this exhibition.», stated Ivica Župan, journalist and art critic, in the catalogue.
Marijan Molnar was born in 1951 in Reka near Koprivnica, Croatia. He graduated in painting from the Academy of Visual Arts in Zagreb in 1976 in the class of professor Šime Perić. From 1976 to 1979 he was a collaborator of the Masters’ Workshop of painters Ljubo Ivančić and Nikola Reiser. In 2002 he published the artist’s book with texts and photo-documentation of his works, along with texts written by Marina Gržinić, Marijan Špoljar and Ana Dević. He lives and works in Zagreb.
The exhibition is on view until the 25th of October.
