«Witches, Goats and Virgins» – literary-graphic portfolio by Renato Percan and Drago Orlić

The opening of the exhibition of the literary-graphic portfolio titled «Witches, Goats and Virgins (Istrian Pastoral)» is scheduled for Friday, the 30th of October, at 6 p.m. The exhibition will be on view until the 15th of November, 2009.

The portfolio came to life during the spring of 2009. The graphic part of the project was created by Renato Percan, while the poetry was written by Drago Orlić.

«Witches, Goats and Virgins» is the ninth art portfolio by Renato Percan. He was born in 1936 in Trget. In 1962 he graduated from the School of Applied Arts in Zagreb (class of professor Gliha) and in 1966  from the Academy of Visual Arts in Zagreb (class of prosessor Kinert). Since 1978 Percan has been a member of the Society of Croatian Artists and an independent artist. He is also a member of the Croatian Society of Visual Artists, Croatian Society of Visual Artists of Rijeka, Labin Ateliers and the Croatian Society of Visual Artists of Istria. Since 1968 Percan has presented his works within frameworks of 45 solo and more more than 200 joint exhibitions in Croatia and abroad. He is also the winner of about 20 prestigious awards. In 1996 Percan was awarded the Order of Croatian Danica with figure of Marko Marulić.

Drago Orlić was born in 1948 in Mandelići.  After high school graduation, he graduated from the Academy of Pedagogy in Pula. Since 1983 he has published 10 books of poetry and his poems are included in three anthologies of Čakavian poetry. The project «Witches, Goats and Virgins» is his third literary-graphic portfolio.

The portfolio is printed in the «supraprint» technique on the Gmund Chamois paper (275 grams, dimensions: 420 x 297 mm). The portfolio consists of 14 sheets; poems and graphics are printed on 12 of them, while the first two sheets present the front page with the foreword by Tonko Maroević. Every page is printed in 60 copies and numerated.
