Every year at the end of June Pazin hosts the traditional event organized in honor of Jules Verne. The celebration dedicated to this French writer and the pioneer of science fiction is organized by the Jules Verne Club. In his early creative period, Verne was attracted to theatre and wrote a series of librettos for operettas. Later on, he was preoccupied with scientific discoveries, distant countries, challenging journeys, explorative endeavours. His SF novel „Five weeks in a baloon“ announced a new prose genre and won the hearts of millions of readers. Shortly after Verne wrote „The Adventures of Captain Hatteras“ and „A Journey to the Centre of the Earth“. His works have been translated into all European languages. Verne took his heroes to the Moon, under the sea and around the world in eighty days. The most interesting detail is the fact that Jules Verne believed that his dreams would soon become reality. He sought inspiration for his characters and plot in our region, for example Dubrovnik, Rovinj and Pazin. Verne described the Pazin Castle and the Pazin Cave in his novel “Mathias Sandorf”, published in 1885. The Pazin episode presents the turning point of the novel: it determined the path of the main character and inspired his search for the traitors and his revenge.
