U pulskom DHB –u 6. listopada s početkom u 21 sat koncert će održati svjetski poznati saksofonist Donny McCaslin iz Amerike.
Uz njega, nastupit će Scott Colley na bass gitari i Antonio Sanchez na bubnjevima.
On the 6th of October at 9 p.m. the DHB in Pula will host Donny McCaslin, world-class saxophonist from the USA. McCaslin will be accompanied by Scott Colley (bass) and Antonio Sanchez (drums).
Il 6 ottobre, alle ore 21, alla Casa dei difensori croati di Pola, si esibirà in concerto il famoso sassofonista americano Donny McCaslin.
Egli sarà accompagnato da Scott Colley (chitarra basso) e da Antonio Sanchez (batteria).
Donny McCaslin rođen je u Santa Cruzu (SAD). Inspiriran očevim muziciranjem na klaviru i vibrafonu, vrlo rano počinje svirati saksofon, a prvu potvrdu svoga talenta dobiva kao član prestižnog sastava «Monterey Jazz Festival’s California All Stars».
Studirajući na prestižnom «Berkle College of Music» u Bostonu, pridružuje se kvintetu velikog Gary Burtona s kojim nastupa četiri godine.
Početkom ‘90 –tih seli u New York te se pridružuje grupi «Steps Ahead» s kojom 1995. godine snima hvaljeni album «Vibe».
Ipak, njegovo umijeće i solo improviziranje dolaze do izražaja u velikim ansamblima poput big benda Kena Schaphorsta i Maria Schneider orkestra.
Za album «Concert in The Garden» ovog potonjeg biva nominiran «Grammyjem» 2004. za najbolji instrumentalni jazz solo.
Godinu dana poslije pridružuje se kvintetu proslavljenog trubača Dave Douglasa, a snimao je i svirao i s Danilom Perezom, Brianom Bladeom, Johnom Patituccijem, «Zhe Mingus» Bandom te Patom Methenyjem.
Kao vođa sastava snimio je pet albuma, a pretposljednji «Recomended Tools» našao se među prvih sedam albuma 2008. godine («DownBeat» nagrada kritike).
Cijena ulaznice u pretprodaji i na dan koncerta iznosi 70⁄100 kuna. Ulaznice se mogu nabaviti na prodajnim mjestima u Puli: «Rock Caffe», «Centar» Cd Shop, «Pro Music» (Pazin), «Link» (Rovinj) te na www.ticketpro.hr .
Poseban popust imaju studenti i članovi «Hrvatske glazbene unije», koji mogu svoje ulaznice (50 kn) preuzeti na blagajni na dan koncerta.

Donny McCaslin was born in Santa Cruz (USA). He started playing the sax very early, inspired by his father, who played the piano and the vibraphone. His talent was confirmed when he became a member of the prestigious «Monterey Jazz Festival’s California All Stars» Band.
While attending the renowned «Berkle College of Music» in Boston, McCaslin joined the famous Gary Burton Quintet and toured with them for four years. At the beginning of the 1990s McCaslin moved to New York and joined the group Steps Ahead, with whom he made the 1995 disc «Vibe». But his qualities as a solo artist became obvious within larger ensembles, such as the Ken Schaphorst’s big band and the Maria Schneider Orchestra, where his performance on the album «Concert In The Garden» received a Grammy nomination for “Best Jazz Instrumental Solo” in 2004. A year later McCaslin joined Dave Douglas, famous trumpet player, and his Quintet. McCaslin also worked and recorded with Danilo Perez, Brian Blade, John Patitucci, Zhe Mingus Band and Pat Metheny. As the leader of the band McCaslin recorded five albums, and the album «Recomended Tools» was listed among the best seven albums of the year 2008 («Down Beat», award of the critics).

Students and members of the Croatian Music Union can purchase tickets at the price of 50 kuna on the day of the concert at the cash desk. Donny McCaslin è nato a Santa Cruz (Stati Uniti d’America). Ispirato dalle esecuzioni del padre sul pianoforte e sul vibrafono, molto presto inizia a suonare il sassofono. Prova il suo talento diventando membro del prestigioso gruppo musicale «Monterey Jazz Festival’s California All Stars».
Mentre ancora studiava al «Berkle College of Music» di Boston, si unì al quintetto del grande Gary Burton, con cui si esibì per quattro anni.
Nei primi anni ’90 si trasferì a New York dove si unì al gruppo «Steps Ahead» e nel 1995 incise l’album «Vibe».
La sua capacità e l’improvvisazione diventano più eclatanti durante le esibizioni con grandi ensemble quali la big band di Ken Schaphorst e la Maria Schneider orchestra.
Nel 2004 venne nominato per il premio «Grammy» miglior solo jazz strumentale eseguito per l’album «Concert in The Garden».
Un anno più tardi iniziò a suonare con il quintetto del famoso trombettista Dave Douglas. Si è esibito anche con Danilo Perez, Brian Blade, John Patitucci, «Zhe Mingus» Bandom e Pat Metheny.
Da leader della band ha inciso cinque album. Il penultimo, «Recomended Tools», è entrato a far parte dei sette migliori dell’anno 2008 («DownBeat» premio della critica).
