U pulskom «DHB –u», 3. studenog s početkom u 21 sat, nastupit će jedan od najboljih bubnjara današnjice, Joey Baron u pratnji svog benda «Killer Joey». Uz njega sviraju Brad Shepik (gitara), Steve Cardenas (gitara) i Tony Scherr (bass).
On the 13th of November, at 9 p.m., the DHB in Pula will host Joey Baron, one of the best contemporary drummers, and his band «Killer Joey». Beside Baron, members of the band are Brad Shepik (guitar), Steve Cardenas (guitar) and Tony Scherr (bass).
Il 3 novembre, alle ore 21, alla Casa del difensore croato, si esibirà uno dei migliori batteristi d’oggi, Joey Baron, accompagnato dalla sua band «Killer Joey». La band è composta da Brad Shepik (chitarra), Steve Cardenas (chitarra) e Tony Scherr (basso).
Joey Baron rođen je 1955. na jugu Amerike u radničkoj obitelji ruskih Židova. Glazbeno je uglavnom samouk, učeći i «skidajući» glazbu s ploča, radija i televizije.
Rani utjecaji bili su mu Art Blakey, Ray Charles, Jimi Hendrix i James Brown. Svoje dvadesete godine provodi u Kaliforniji, gdje uči zanat svirajući s glazbenicima kao što su Stan Getz, Dizzy Gillespie, Chet Baker ili Carmen McRae.
Kasnije seli u New York gdje stječe imidž originalnog, nekonvencionalnog bubnjara koji beskompromisno slijedi svoje glazbene ideje.
Joey Baron bubnjar je koji živi glazbu, a njegov stav možda najbolje oslikava epizoda kad odbija turneju s Davidom Bowiem (Baron sudjelovao na Bowievom albumu Outside) zbog jednog dogovorenog koncerta svog trija u Njemačkoj.
U New Yorku je i danas tražen za specifične projekte, pa je stalan član ansambala progresivne scene koje vode Bill Frisell, Fred Frith i John Zorn (Naked City, Masada).
Joey je bio vođa i vlastitih trija: jedan sa Johnom Medeskijem i Marcom Ribotom, i «Barondown» trio sa Ellery Eskelinom (sax) i Joshom Rosemanom (trombon).
Ipak, Baronov glavni band s kojim često nastupa je «Killer Joey» u kojem sviraju gitaristi Steve Cardenas i Brad Shepik te basista Tony Scherr.
Osim spomenutih svirao je i snimao sa glazbenicima kao što su: Tony Bennett, Hampton Hawes, Laurie Anderson, Art Pepper, Lee Konitz, Joe Lovano, Vinicus Cantuaria, Jay McShann, The Los Angeles Philharmonic, Big Joe Turner, Philip Glass, John Abercrombie, Mel Lewis, Pat Martino, Harry Sweets Edison, David Sanborn, Al Jarreau, Jim Hall, Randy Brecker, Marian McPartland, John Scofield, Marc Johnson, The Lounge Lizards.

Joey Baron was born in 1955 in the southern United Stated to a working class family of Russian Jews. He is a self-taught musician who learned how to play by listening to records, radio and TV. During his early period he was influenced by Art Blakey, Ray Charles, Jimi Hendrix and James Brown. Baron spent his twenties in California where he developed his skills while playing with Stan Getz, Dizzy Gillespie, Chet Baker and Carmen McRae. He later moved to New York, where he became known as an original, unconventional drummer who follows his own musical ideas without compromise.
Joey Baron is a drummer who lives music and his attitude is best illustrated by the episode when he rejected to go on tour with David Bowie (Baron has cooperated with Bowie on his album «Outside») because he and his trio were invited to perform in Germany. He is still famous in New York for his interest in special projects and is therefore a member of ensembles of the progressive scene led by Bill Frisell, Fred Frith and John Zorn ( Naked City, Masada).
Joey was also leader of his own trios: he played with John Medeski and Marc Ribot and was a the leader of the Barondown trio, which included Ellery Eskelin (sax) and John Roseman (trombone).
Still, Baron often performs in concerts with Steve Cardenas (guitar), Brad Shepik (guitar) and Tony Scherr (bass), members of his main band the «Killer Joey». Beside the aforementioned artists, Baron also worked with Tony Bennett, Hampton Hawes, Laurie Anderson, Art Pepper, Lee Konitz, Joe Lovano, Vinicus Cantuaria, Jay McShann, The Los Angeles Philharmonic, Big Joe Turner, Philip Glass, John Abercrombie, Mel Lewis, Pat Martino, Harry Sweets Edison, David Sanborn, Al Jarreau, Jim Hall, Randy Brecker, Marian McPartland, John Scofield, Marc Johnson and The Lounge Lizards.
Tickets are available in advance sale at the price of 80 kuna and on the day of the concert at the price of 100 kuna and can be purchased at the Rock Caffe Pula, Centar Cd Shop Pula, Pro Music Pazin, Link Rovinj and at www.ticketpro.hr.

Joey Baron è nato nel 1955, nel meridione americano, in una famiglia ebrea. Per quanto riguarda la musica, è un autodidatta che ha imparato a suonare dai dischi, dalla radio e dalla televisione.
I primi ad influenzarlo furono Art Blakey, Ray Charles, Jimi Hendrix e James Brown. Il periodo tra i suoi venti ai trenta anni trascorse in California, dove imparò il mestiere suonando con musicisti quali Stan Getz, Dizzy Gillespie, Chet Baker e Carmen McRae.
Più tardi si trasferì a New York dove acquisì le parvenze di un batterista originale, non convenzionale che senza compromessi segue le sue idee sulla musica.
Joey Baron è un batterista che vive la musica, il cui atteggiamento verso la musica viene descritto nel migliore dei modi dall’episodio in cui rifiutò di andare in tournee con Bowie (Baron collaborò all’incisione dell’album «Outside») a causa di un concerto del suo trio in Germania, prefissato per quel periodo.
Anche oggi, è ricercato a New York per la collaborazione a dei progetti specifici. È membro regolare di un ensemble di musica progressiva, guidato da Bill Frisell, Fred Frith e John Zorn (Naked City, Masada).
Joey ha guidato anche suoi trio: uno con John Medeski e Marc Ribot, e «Barondown» trio con Ellery Eskelin (sassofono) e Josh Roseman (trombone).
Ma la band principale con cui Baron si esibisce più spesso è «Killer Joey» che raccoglie i chitarristi Steve Cardenas e Brad Shepik e il bassista Tony Scherr.
