mješalica šikutiU galeriji štali u Šikutima, 12. rujna s početkom u 20 sati održat će se otvaranje posljednje ovogodišnje izložbe umjetnika Lea Vukelića pod nazivom «Miješalica 2009.».

On the 12th of September at 8 p.m. the gallery in Šikuti will host the opening of the exhibition “Miješalica 2009” by Leo Vukelić.

The mixer, an integral part of the modern part of the Croatian backyards, represents its visual identity, along with the see-saw or the toboggan. After a short usage, the mixer becomes a kind of a monument and the most attractive element of the act of building. The appeal of the object is its correlation to the flora, fauna and architecture of the backyard, usually unnoticed by its owners. In this way this appliance becomes a monument of the urban society and a potential inspiration for a work of art.

Leo Vukelić was born in Zagreb in 1972. He studied painting at the Academy of Visual Arts in Zagreb. He also graduated in sculpture from the Kunstakademie Dusseldorf in Germany. Vukelić has exhibited his works within frameworks of numerous joint and solo exhibitions in Split, Zagreb, Dusseldorf, Moscow, Prague, Belgrade, Strasbourg and the village of Šikuti. He has won the award of the 27th edition of the event «Salon mladih» in Zagreb and the prestigious «Radoslav Puntar» Award. Vukelić is also one of the protagonists of the retrospective of Croation video art.

Beside Vukelić and his mixer, Šikuti will host the legendary Slovenian artists Gregor, Ivo and Marijan, members of the «Žoambo Žoet Workestrao» band.
